North Pole is melting records in record history, even in winter

Recently, scientists have found ice at the north pole of the record levels recorded in the history of the thinnest. In fact, it occurs during the winter there, and even more surprising, when the winter cold is more than that recorded last year. However, the liquidity of ice was still higher than the rate freeze.

Prior to this, in the northern polar ice has melted at a high level in the summer to create a new inland route.

New water routes created by melting ice

According to Walt Meier of National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado, the total amount of ice at the North Pole has declined by 10% compared to that recorded in 2007. In fact, based on observations from NASA's 30 years ago also showed the trend of decreasing the amount of ice that is consistent. This once more proves that our planet to global warming.

However, Jay Zwally of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center believes if a longer winter occurs as expected this year, a new layer of ice that will emerge and reach a thickness that can weather the coming summer. 'Ice of the Sea requires 7-8 years to reach a thickness of up to 5 meters.

However, if the trend decline in the amount of ice is going on, he predicted the North Pole will be ice-free zone in the summer by the year 2013.

What will happen when there is no ice at the north pole?

Ice sheet is very useful to the Earth because it works with the sun reflecting of heat into space while maintaining the temperature of sea water below the ice surface. Without the ice, ocean water is exposed to heat and thus raise the temperature of sea water.

Overview of Global Warming, Effects And How To Prevent Global Warming World

We are all both know that global warming is happening. Melaporakn IPCC research that 0.15 to 0.3 o C. If the increase in temperature continues, estimated in 2040 (33 years from now) layer of ice at the poles of the earth will be depleted melt. And if the earth continues to heat up, in 2050 will be a shortage of fresh water, so that famine would be widespread throughout the universe.
The air will be very hot, millions of people fighting over food and water. Breathing the smoke and dust. The houses in coastal areas inundated by sea water. Sea water overflow more and more widespread, so that eventually swallow the whole island.Property will disappear, so does the human soul.
The study conducted scientist at the Center for Coastal and Marine Area Development, Bandung Institute of Technology (2007), was no less horrific.Apparently, the Gulf sea levels rise as high as 0.8 cm in Jakarta. If world temperatures continue to rise, it is predicted, in 2050 in Jakarta daera areas (such as: Kosambi, Penjaringan, and Cilincing) and Bekasi (such as: Muaragembong, Babelan, and Tarumajaya) will be submerged everything.
Well,,, we all already know it ... and some people still try to tell you that this incident actually was going on ... but still not a few people who still do not care. Maybe because we still feel comfortable with the situation now ... can menikamti everything from food, water, air, land sukup to play ball, which is still quite peaceful social, etc ...
Well ... it is ... then how about if 10 years from now, or 20 years, or up to 30 years. I know there will be no significant changes at this time because we all still consider this a normal thing, but I would be very foolish man if I do not keep trying to inform this.
So what can we do?
There are some easy ways that we can do, namely;
1. Turn off the electricity. (When not in use, do not leave electronic equipment on standby. Unplug the phone charger. Handsfree from the socket. Although not emit carbon electricity, PLN's power plants using fossil fuel emissions big contributor.)2. Replace light bulb (the type of CFL, according to electric power. Even though the price is somewhat expensive, this lamp is more efficient electricity and durable).3. Clean light (dust can reduce lighting levels up to 5%).4. If forced to use air conditioning (close doors and windows for air conditioning is on. Set the temperature is cool enough, about 21-24o C).5. Use a timer (to AC, microwave, oven, magic jar, etc.).6. Switch the engine waste heat air conditioner to operate a water-heater.7. Planting trees in your neighborhood.8. Drying clothes outside. The wind and the sun's heat better than using the machine (dryer) which emit lots of carbon.9. Use public transportation (to reduce air pollution).10. Efficient use of paper (raw materials derived from wood).11. Say no to plastic. Almost all plastic waste produces harmful gases when burned.Or you can also help collect them for recycling back.

The fact that the result shows that the heat wave that occurred in June 2003 killed 25,000 European people. Meanwhile, according to BBC reports, the extreme winter conditions that occurred in December 2003, has been caused the death of the UK citizen in 2500. Even according to the WHO report in December 2003, global warming has killed 150 thousand people each year. According to WHO estimates, in 30 years, mortality caused by global warming will be reached 300 thousand per year.

Effects of Global Warming on Health by Christophe Catesson

A report of the effects of global warming on health published by WHO, has estimated around one million fifty thousand deaths every year due to global warming. Further it declared that each year five million people are suffering from health problems and diseases caused for this global warming. The rising concern over this matter has led many scientists and researchers to take a deeper look and prepare a plan to save human civilization from this onslaught.
Global warming has caused changes in temperature, ocean current flow, sea level, ecosystem, economy, agriculture, industry, settlements and related to all these - the health and living. Warmer world has created congenial atmosphere for the breeding and life expanse of various virus, bacteria and carriers of infectious diseases. Few evidences of global warming leaving negative effects on human health are -
- The vectors distribution of infectious diseases have been altered for global warming.
- Heat wave resulted for global warming are causing deaths.
- The seasonal distribution of few species of allergenic pollen have been altered for global warming.
- Various extreme conditions of global warming like droughts, heat and cold wave, storm, flood, fire will increase the death tolls as well as injuries and diseases.
- Malnutrition and disordered development of children are few long term results of global warming.
- Global warming will cause increase of malaria, diarrhea, cholera, dengue, encephalitis and other diseases.
- There will be constant rising rate of mortality due to ground level ozone related diseases as well as high cardio respiratory morbidity for global warming.
Thus global warming will affect human health in two major ways - with extreme weather condition and with rising infectious diseases. IPCC in a study of one of the most global warming affected area of Illionis, Chicago, has provided an apprehensive report that by 2020 extreme climate condition like heat wave will raise the climate average deaths to 400 and to 497 by 2050 from the present average of 191. European heat wave of 2003 is an example of its severity. Heat waves will even cause cardio respiratory complications resulting to high rate of deaths.
The results of ill health due to global warming and infectious diseases are already evident. Houston as well as many tropical countries are experiencing frequent outbreak of malaria, dengue and other encephalitis diseases. Even colder regions like Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Queens are severely suffering from malaria since 1990 as a result of global warming. McAllen of Texas also suffered a dengue epidemic in 1995. Florida, New Oreleans, Arizona, Mississippi, Texas, Colorado, and California - all are experiencing encephalitis epidemic for global warming since 1987. According to IPCC, 65% of world population will suffer from high risk of infectious diseases in near future. The risk itself will be increased by 20%, only as a result of global warming.
Facing such an impending calamity due to global warming, the requirement of proper planning and organized adaptation to new and changing condition has received a new dimension. Along with urgent and basic adaptation practices to fight the immediate effects, a longer planning and elaborate gradual methodology are also necessary to address the severity of future conditions resulted from global warming. A participatory approach to the holistic development of human health is expected to sober down the effects of global warming on health to some extent.

History of Investigating Global Warming by fishing

People have not always known about global warming. The idea had to start somewhere. The history of the global warming concept is probably older than you might think. It all began in the late 1800's.
There was a scientist named Svante Arrhenius who was studying fossil fuel combustion in Sweden towards the end of the 19th century. An 1859 prediction claimed that the burning of such fuels would eventually lead to the process of global warming. Svante Arrhenius recognized that temperatures on the earth's surface were related to carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.
Arrhenius studied global warming to find out the average surface temperature of earth. He figured that doubling the carbon dioxide in a greenhouse effect would raise the surface temperature by five degrees Celsius. He also concluded that human activities could be to blame for future global warming. His focus, though, was on how much carbon dioxide would have to be taken away to cause global cooling.
Infrared spectroscopy was developed in the 1940's that could be used to measure the sun's radiation. It was used to measure the absorption of radiation with and without added carbon dioxide. Gilbert Plass determined that the increased carbon dioxide would cause the earth to absorb more radiation, and so cause global warming.
From late in the 1950's to early in the 1960's, Charles Keeling produced curves of the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. He showed the scientific community that the earth had gone through 32 distinct weather variations. It had previously been thought that there had only been four. This raised alarms of ice ages rather than global warming.
Much changed in the 1980's. The curve was followed and it was discovered that temperatures were getting higher at a rapid rate. Suddenly people stopped preparing for a cooling planet and began pondering global warming. Since Stephen Schneider first gave global warming a name and predicted its coming, which he did in 1976, the emphasis on the subject by the media grew more and more intense.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was created in 1988, just as the greenhouse effect was being named. In the IPCC, there are 2500 experts in all fields of study that are affecting and are affected by global warming. These include such diverse specialties as meteorology, economics, medicine, and oceanography, for example. The IPCC is still actively seeking information on global warming.
The term "the greenhouse effect" has fallen somewhat out of favor since 1990. Statistics did not follow the predicted course for the theory. However, the Kyoto Protocol, negotiated in Kyoto Japan, was aimed at preventing and correcting global warming.
Global warming is still a term that is in use and making the news daily. Since Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, people have been more aware of the problem than ever. Presently, there are scientists, celebrities, and all manner of people who are working on solutions for global warming.
The history of inquiry into the nature of global warming is over 110 years old. There have been advances and retreats in the science. However, the future of global warming research and activism seems positive.

Global warming and oxygen by JustinCooper

Throughout its long history, Earth has warmed and cooled time and again. Climate has changed when the planet received more or less sunlight due to
subtle shifts in its orbit, as the atmosphere or surface changed, or when the Sun's energy varied. But in the past century, another force has started to
influence Earth's climate: humanity.Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth's average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels.
Find more information about the climate change, melting glaciers and rising global temperatures due to the environmental pollutions and industrial effluents. Know more about the recent measures taken by governments to address the global warming issue and steps taken to save our planet.
It's becoming increasingly clear that global warming may trigger many changes beyond the obvious change in temperature. Earlier this year I wrote about how rising carbon dioxide is driving down the pH of the oceans, with some potentially devastating consequences. Today in Yale Environment
360 I look at a potential change that's also starting to get scientists very worried: a drop in the oxygen dissolved in the world's oceans.
Global Warming is a dramatically urgent and serious problem. We don't need to wait for governments to find a solution for this problem: each individual can bring an important help adopting a more responsible lifestyle: starting from little, everyday things. Here is a list of simple things that everyone can do in order to fight against and reduce the Global Warming phenomenon: some of these ideas are at no cost, some other require a little effort or investment but can help you save a lot of money
1)Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl).
2)Install a programmable thermostat.
3) Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer.
4) Clean or replace filters on your furnace and air conditioner.

Global warming effect on the Sea by Sara Goudarzi

Warming oceans, one of the major consequences of global climate change, are making another marine species feel like a fish out of water, scientists report.
Biologists have known for years that global climate change, is linked to declining fish stocks, but a new study of eelpouts--big-headed fish that resemble eels--is the first to go deeper and see how warmer seas are linked to how fishes take in oxygen.
Scientists at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Germany studied the relationship between sea temperature and eelpouts counts in the Southern North Sea, combining data from the field with lab investigations of eelpout physiology.
The researchers not only found that the oxygen levels in the waters of the North and Baltic seas have dropped due to increasing temperatures over the past 50 years, a factor that reduces fish populations. They also found that eelpouts need more oxygen in warmer waters, a second factor that is reducing their numbers.
Difficulty in taking up oxygen via respiration and blood circulation, caused by the warming waters, proved to be the key factor in diminishing the size of the fish stock.
The study, published in the Jan. 5 issue of the journal Science, also noted that the population of eelpouts dropped as average summer temperatures increased. The impact was also observed in the short term such that eelpout numbers decreased the year immediately after a warm summer. (global climate change )
Animals tolerate a limited range of environmental conditions. Anything out of their tolerance window can cause damage. Fish in the North Sea have evolved to tolerate a wider range of temperatures than fish elsewhere due to the large seasonal fluctuations there. However, warming waters and their impact on oxygen supply can stress fish to the point that their thermal tolerance range is thrown off and they perish, the scientists said.
In the future, eelpouts could prove to be important bioindicators that would help experts assess what might happen to other marine species in the region, the scientists said.
Worldwide, warming waters can be expected to strain species that require lots of oxygen, forcing them to either relocate to cooler waters or face.

Global Warming by Technologies blog

Carbon dioxide and other gases warm the surface of the planet naturally by trapping solar heat in the atmosphere. This is a good thing because it makes our planet a habitable place. But certain gases are causing the temperature of earth rising. It is the most serious environmental crisis that world is facing today. Carbon dioxide is identified as the main cause of global warming. The changes in climates occuring the world over are attributed to global warming.
Rising seas, heat waves, intense floods, cyclones all are results of man's intervention with nature which in turn resulted in global warming. People will have to flee environmental disasters and seek refuge in lands which are not theirs. It is evident that global warming is human induced. Most of the increase in globally averaged temperatures since twentieth century is very likely due to the increase in anthropogenic green house gas concentration. Some believe that global warming is caused by natural phenomenon like sun spots and the earth's orbit and its tilt. But natural causes and human activities are the causes which induces global warming.
Sun spot cycle is found to influence sun spots, the explosions on the sun's surface produces intense heat which when hit on the earth's surface can cause high temperature in earth's atmosphere. Any changes in the tilt of earth's orbit can cause the planet earth to move closer or move away from the sun. There are evidences showing plate tectonics cause poles to get separated from warm ocean currents thus affecting the global climate. Another major natural factor that affects global warming is the release of methane gas mainly from the marsh lands and arctic tundra.

More than 60% of global warming is caused by carbon dioxide, but other substances which cause global warming as well include methane, chloro fluro carbons and nitrous oxides, by human activities, the concentration of these gases increases. Smoke emitted by vehicles using fossil fuels ,factories belching out smoke, chloro fluro carbons used in refrigerators ,perfume sprays, coal-fired electrical power plants, cutting down trees, all these contribute to global warming.
The rise of industrial revolution has dramatically increased the amount of global warming causing green house gas concentration much faster than the earth could recycle or purify them. Deforestation aggravates the situation, as the trees are cut down conversion of carbon dioxide to oxygen is taking place very slowly which causes increased amount of carbon dioxide in atmosphere. Burning of fossil fuels like gas, petrol and coal and the use of fire wood, also add to the carbon dioxide concentration. Nitrous oxide which is another green house gas is released during agricultural and various industrial processes.
Global warming will influence human lives negatively, death due to heat waves will occur, infectious disease like malaria will become common with the increasing temperature. Changes in climate not only affect our bodies but also harm our crops. The heat can damage our crops; the rising temperature may allow the growth of weeds and pests, and our crops to be infected with diseases.
This will result in poor yield and cause malnutrition world wide. The changes in climate are capable of altering our water cycles. Heavy downpours and flash floods will increase. High temperatures results in drying up of crop lands or parched land areas, which are not suitable for cultivation.
It is also assumed that the increasing temperature can cause the ice in the Polar Regions and in Himalayas to melt. Melting of the snow world wide will result in rise in sea-levels. Scientists believe that if the sea level increase at the present rate, all the cities near the sea shore from Boston to Bombay will be under water within next fifty years. Many of the islands in the world will be wiped out from the surface of the earth. Over the century the increase in temperature rise could be between2.5to4.5 degree Celsius.
To fight global warming many countries are conducting research to find out the exact causes and the various ways to reduce the global warming. The United Nations has drafted many proposals about the climate changes and about the possible actions for reducing green house gas emissions. Inter governmental panel on climate change has released a report in Paris on February 2007 highlighting the threats people all over the world are likely to face from global warming.
It is high time, for each and every person, to make a positive effort to reduce the impact of global warming on our mother earth. Importance should be given for re-using or recycling plastic containers or jars. As plastic is a major cause of pollution of land and water .Burning plastic waste produces more carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases causing global warming.
Emissions from transporting vehicles can be considerably reduced if the employer can opt for work from home program for jobs. Automobile trips can be considerably reduced with car pool systems and by using bikes or cycles for short distance traveling. Doing the necessary shopping by using on-line shopping is another option for reducing the use of vehicles. As the bad effects of global warming are becoming more clear, people will hope fully co-operate to control the effect of global warming. Trying to reduce the emissions of green house gases and planting trees to keep the optimum oxygen levels all will help to fight global warming.
